A-Levels
Over 40 different courses and a 98% pass rate...
AS and A levels are well established academic qualifications and Bexhill College offers over 40 different courses in a wide range of academic and work related subjects with a pass rate that year on year exceeds the national average. For example we had a 98% pass rate in 2008-09 - quite an achievement for a non-selective college. A levels are one of the main routes into higher education but can also provide a route into employment. Most students take four AS levels in the first year of study and these make up half of an A level.
Usually students go on to take three subjects through to A2 but high performing students can study all four during the second year.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
The IB is a broad course which offers students the opportunity of studying six different subjects at advanced level. The programme also requires students to study the Theory of Knowledge and take part in voluntary work as part of the Creativity Action and Service (CAS) programme. Students also produce an extended essay.
Level 3 Vocational Courses
(BTEC National Diploma, National Award & Advanced Diploma)
Courses designed in collaboration with business & industry... Many students choose to take these courses because they are interested in learning more about a particular sector or industry and as many of the courses have been designed in collaboration with industry, they can equip you with the skills and knowledge that employers are looking for. The qualifications offer a mix of theory and practice and can also include an element of work experience. There are no exams as they are assessed through coursework which suits students who do not perform well under exam pressure. Level 3 courses provide routes into higher education as well as employment.
Level 2 Courses
An alternative to, and equivalent to, four GCSEs at Grades A-C...
These courses are a good alternative to GCSEs as they provide an opportunity to develop key skills needed for further study or employment. Many of the level 2 courses are assessed through course work which means you can complete assessments in your own time rather than under the pressure of an exam situation. Some, however, do have a small number of exams. Please ensure you read the individual course details to find out more.
Level 2 qualifications offer students the opportunity to achieve the equivalent of four GCSEs at grades A to C.
Level 1 Courses
A Vocational Studies course will give you a taster of several work-related areas and improve all your study skills, while a Skills for Working Life course will provide some of the skills needed for work or for continuing in education.
Individual GCSE Re-sits
Research shows that students who have achieved GCSE in ‘C’ or above in English and Maths do better at advanced level study. We offer you the chance to re-sit key GCSE’s if needed.
