'Build A Million' Theatre Fundraiser Launch

Bexhill College is proud to announce that fundraising for its new Community Theatre has now begun. The Theatre will be located at the College site and will be built in partnership with the community.

Last Friday saw the launch of the “Build A Million” Theatre project whereby an evening’s entertainment was put on by the College students for a number of special guests including the local MP, Gregory Barker, Bexhill Town’s Mayor, Cllr Stuart Wood, plus a number of local Councillors.

Following a presentation about the project by College Principal, Karen Hucker, the guests were invited into the College Drama studio where they were wowed by an outstanding ‘Les Miserables’ medley of songs performed by the dedicated students of the College.

The students feel so strongly about the need for a Theatre that even those moving on to University this month returned for one last performance to show their support.

The purpose of the launch was to raise awareness of the support needed from the local community to aid the fundraising of the proposed Theatre.

Once built, the Theatre would be made available for use by a wide range of community members including Schools, Drama & Theatre companies, Artists, Musicians and Local Businesses. Students will also benefit greatly from the new proposed facility.

Students commented:

“Without a theatre there is no opportunity to show what we can really do. We’re quite limited in the classrooms that we have now.” - Performing Arts student Benjamin Hall.

“Bexhill College Performing Arts was graded ‘Outstanding’ in its recent Ofsted inspection, but with a theatre the opportunity for outstanding performances would be limitless.” - Performing Arts student Josh Noon.

Local businesses could benefit from potential advertisement opportunities, while local theatre companies & educational establishments would gain from this invaluable performance space.

The Theatre will also become a suitable space for business exhibitions and will have the capability of putting on film nights on a big screen!
