BTEC Media Students Put On ‘Identity’ Exhibition
Info Updated June 2012
Last Wednesday evening Bexhill College was transformed into an exhibition centre hosting the BTEC Media students ‘Identity’ video installation exhibition.
As part of their Final Major Project students studying the BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production were asked by the Principal, Karen Hucker, to create a video installation exhibition based on the theme of ‘Identity.’
The students were givent the task of creating original and creative audio/visual pieces that were both inventive and experimental with their use of sound and images.
They created these installations in response to specific environments around the college and their chosen exhibition sites both enhanced the meaning of the piece and the experience for the viewer.
The students interpreted the theme of Identity in many different ways and the pieces varied immensely ranging from social stereotypes to the seven deadly sins.
Teacher Alicen Rhodes commented on the exhibition, saying ‘The students who took part worked incredibly hard to produce, install and exhibit an inspiring, creative and technically proficient collection of work. Feedback from visitors to the exhibition was exceptionally positive and all the students have achieved good to excellent grades for their work for the exhibition. The footage from the exhibition will shortly be edited and posted on YouTube and some pieces will be exhibited at the forthcoming BTEC Art exhibition at Bexhill College so don't feel upset if you missed out! The Media department would like to offer the technicians a massive thank you for all their help and of course a huge thank you to the BTEC Media students who worked extremely hard to ensure the exhibition was successful.’
This was the first video installation exhibition held at Bexhill College but due to its success the college intends to make this an annual event.
