Success In Biology Olympiad Competition

Info Updated May 2012

Bexhill College is very proud to announce that 6 of it’s A Level Biology students competed in the British Biology Olympiad, and finished with extremely commendable results.

The British Biology Olympiad is a competition run by the Society of Biology designed to challenge and stimulate students with an interest in Biology and expand their talents. The competition assesses a much wider range of topics than is covered at A Level including Cell Biology, Physiology, Genetics, Evolution, Ethology and Biosystematics.

Out of nearly 4000 students who entered nationwide 6 A2 Biology students from Bexhill College received certificates and medals from the Society of Biology. Conal Groves and Joshua King both received ‘Commended’ certificates, while Renz Rabe and Lauren Barber received ‘Highly Commended’ certificates. Megan Milarski went on to receive a Bronze Medal, whilst Talib Dar received a Silver Medal.

Of the experience, Megan commented ‘it’s such a great experience to have before Uni, this really challenged me to problem solve and apply my A Level understanding to unusual concepts.’ Conal also agrees with Megan, stating that ‘entering this competition has made me excited about my future studies in Higher Education.’

Wendy Jasper, who teaches the students, also commented ‘this is our first year of entering the Biology Olympiad, and the college is delighted that 6 of our students have received this recognition of their excellent ability to problem solve within the context of Biology.’

As a result of their accomplishments, Talib and Megan have been invited to visit the Royal Society of Biology at the end of June. A massive congratulations to all 6 students from Bexhill College!
