Childcare Students Put On Nursery PlayDay

On Wednesday, 23rd November 2011, 2nd year BTEC National Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development students from Bexhill College had the opportunity to run a Playday at the Early Years Nursery in School Place in Bexhill.

The theme for the Playday this year was ‘the jungle’ and students planned, resourced and carried out a range of play activities with the children at the Nursery. The students have the opportunity to work as a team and, this year, the activities included jungle animal face-painting, collage mask-making, jungle animal sound shakers, messy play with cornflour (complete with jungle bugs) and jelly (with jungle animals), cake and biscuit decorating, snapping crocodile, who’s in the jungle game and more.

The BTEC course provides students with a level 3 qualification, equivalent to 3 A’levels, which equips them to work in a wide range of childcare roles and also represents excellent preparation for progression onto primary teacher training courses at university. Bexhill College is currently the only local provider to offer a 2-year full-time programme at this level, which enables.

Course tutor, Mary Osman, tells us that ‘as a primary teacher myself, I would strongly recommend this course for those who are planning to progress into primary teaching, as it offers a firm foundation in all aspects of working with children, their learning, development and care from birth to the age of 8, including aspects of psychology.

We are very grateful to Karen Woodgate, Nursery Manager and her brilliant staff team for providing us with the opportunity to carry out the Playday. The staff are always welcoming and supportive to the students throughout the day. We enjoy a very strong relationship with the Nursery, who provide ongoing work placements for students on a range of courses at the college, for which we are also very grateful.
