Childcare Students 'Sewed Their Socks Off'
Info Updated November 2011
The Bexhill College Childcare department recently got stuck into a fantastic project supporting the CSV ‘Make A Difference’ Day on Monday the 17th of October.
The day saw tens of thousands of people taking part in events across the UK with the main focus of the campaign highlighting how volunteers can combat loneliness and isolation, with many of the activities following this theme.
College Students got together for the morning to make a large number of 'Sock Teddies' which would then be donated to deprived children in Mozambique.
Following the event, the students were visited by Judy Guy, an Early Years Teacher who is going out to a remote part of Mozambique to set up a nursery for children aged 1-5years in April.
Judy gave a talk to the students about her trip and was then presented with the 'Sock Teddies’ and a number of other nursery toys and equipment' to take with her to Mozambique.
Judy also taught the students the ‘Good Morning’ song in Swahili .
Overall, 77 teddies were made, some of which will be delivered to the Children’s Ward at the Conquest Hospital, Hastings, nearer Christmas.
This event was thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part and students gained many skills which will in turn enrich their learning on their chosen Childcare course.
