A Level Celebrations At Bexhill College

Info Updated August 2012

The morning of Thursday 16th August is a tense and exciting time for students of Bexhill College as they await the collection of their A level results.

The College has a long history of outstanding academic performance and this year was no exception as they delivered another set of excellent ‘A’ level exam results. The 2012 results have maintained Bexhill Colleges reputation for outstanding academic success once again. In 2010, the College was placed in the top 20% of Schools and Colleges nationally and this performance strongly contributes to the Colleges continued success.

Initial indications are that the A Level pass rates for this academic year stand at over 98% which is above the national average for the 19th year in a row. The College had over 840 A level entries this summer in 45 subjects and has achieved over 75% A* to C with 45% of the passes awarded the top A*, A or B grades. 35 of these subjects achieved an outstanding 100% pass rate.

This year, many results are based on exam performance only as an increasing number of subjects have dropped their coursework element. The AS exams at the end of the first year count towards the final grade and many students are taking four or five subjects over the two years and so the pressure remains high for advanced level students.

The vocational course results have also been outstanding again this year with many students achieving triple distinction stars in their BTEC Extended Diplomas, including Sports Science, Performing Arts, Health and Social Care, Early Years and Public Services, these results are equivalent to three Grade As at A levels. The IB results arrived earlier in July, also producing some very strong individual performances.

There are many outstanding achievements across a whole range of academic and vocational subjects. As usual, a significant number of students achieved straight ‘A’ grades in all exams taken in both AS and A2 subjects.

College Principal, Karen Hucker, commented:

‘These results reflect an incredible amount of hard work by students, teachers and a lot of support from parents. We are delighted that so many students have achieved fantastic success with us at Bexhill College. These achievements will provide students with significant opportunities in the future and we are very proud of each and every individual performance. This continuing success has led to an increasing number of applicants for September from young people in the area and we look forward to providing them with the same opportunities and success over the next year.’

These results have brought a pleasing conclusion to a very successful year.
