If you choose A Level German you will study a range challenging topics; enabling you to express yourself confidently and fluently in German and understand in depth German speaking culture. You will study technological and social change, the challenges of living in a multicultural society as well as aspects of German culture such as festivals, traditions, music, film and fashion. In your second year you will learn how Germany's political landscape has changed and discuss issues and influences that are still shaping its political landscape today. You will have the opportunity to study a German film, literary texts and carry out an independent research project of your choice to present in the speaking exam. Lessons are varied and interactive with lots of conversation practice and class debates. There will be grammar and translation exercises so you can accurately express your own ideas and opinions.
How will I be assessed?
100% exam. The exam board is AQA. You will sit three exams, consisting of two written papers and a speaking exam. All examinations take place at the end of the course.
Are there any special expenses?
A good bilingual dictionary and a self-study A Level grammar book to supplement your learning at home is advised. You could also purchase your own copies of the film and text studied at A Level
What could I do next?
German A Level is highly regarded by many Higher Education institutions and employers. It allows access to a wide range of degree courses and professions. Many students study German as a single subject degree or in combination with subjects such as European Studies, Business Studies, Marketing, Law, Politics and History. German graduates use their language skills in a wide range of specialisms. It will give you the edge if you want to be a Research Scientist, Lawyer, Diplomat, Media Consultant, Tech Entrepreneur or Financier.
