Music Technology (Production) Technical Extended Certificate

Entry Requirements:
At least 4-5 GCSEs graded 9-4 or A*-C including English and Maths at grade C/4 or above. The ability to play an instrument or sing would be an advantage, as would basic note reading skills.

Why Should You Take This Course?
This course will introduce the terminology and practical techniques needed to understand and carry out multitrack recording sessions, MIDI sequencing skills and various aspects of audio production. You will learn how to set up equipment including audio workstations (Apple Macs running Logic X) and microphones, as well as learn about microphone placement and the principles of creating a stereo mixdown. This is an ideal course for anyone wishing to pursue a career in Music Technology or wishing to study this subject at a higher level at university.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is through a mixture of performances, written work and presentations. You will be given feedback and an opportunity to improve your grade throughout the course.
Are there any special expenses?
The College does have various instruments and equipment, but it will likely be beneficial for you to bring in your own instruments if possible. There is no other particular need for other resources although you may benefit from purchasing books on technique specific to your instrument/voice. Opportunities to attend performances, workshops and seminars will be available during the course, costs will vary.
What could I do next?
After this course there are many performing based courses at higher education establishments that you may wish to explore. Many of our students have gone on to BIMM in Brighton to specialise in the instrument of their choice.
