Course content
Students will study a series of themes designed to develop knowledge, understanding and critical analysis of the society and culture of the country of their language of study. Students are taught in groups where the emphasis is placed on practical communication using topical authentic material. Students are encouraged to improve their language skills with regular independent learning.
In the first year, basic grammar will be explained and practised regularly in order to aid accurate and coherent communication. In the second year, students will become competent in using more complex grammatical structures and idiomatic expressions.

How will I be assessed?
Assessments of oral skills as well as a written paper which will test listening, reading and written competence.

Are there any special expenses?
We recommend buying a good bilingual dictionary to use at home. An A Level grammar book would also be useful to help bridge the gap between A Level and GCSE.

What could I do next?
A Modern Foreign Language A Level is a highly regarded qualification by many Higher Education institutions and employers. A language can be combined with most university subjects thus broadening your opportunities and career prospects.
