Dance A Level

Entry Requirements:
At least 5 GCSE's graded A*-C including Dance and English at grade C/4 or above and/or other substantial Dance experience or examinations.

Why Should You Take This Course?
During this Course you will gain a detailed understanding of every aspect of the dance world. This will allow you to develop yourself as a performer and expand your knowledge of the development of dance in a wider context. This A Level forms a good foundation for the study of dance at a higher level.

Course content
This qualification is designed for candidates with a substantial dance background. Candidates are required to: choreograph, perform and analyse solo and group dances; study various dance works in depth (which includes observational theatre trips); and study anatomy and safe practice.

How will I be assessed?
Component 1: Performance and Choreography
- Practical exam
- 80 marks
- 50% of A Level
Component 2: Critical Engagement
- Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes
- 100 marks
- 50% of A Level

Are there any special expenses?
Through the Course there will be opportunities for learners to go on theatre trips to see professional dance companies and to participate in workshops with dance practitioners.

What could I do next?
This qualification will aid entrance to university to study Dance and opens the door for careers such as dance teaching, performing, choreography and critical analysis.
