On Wednesday, over 150 students from the Politics, Economics, Business and Law Section attended a Careers & Aspirations Seminar provided by the Working Options organisation. They engage, inspire and motivate state educated sixth form students to realise their full potential and to consider employment opportunities in the food, drink and retail industry.
Lauren Monk, National Development Manager for Working Options, commented:
"The main aim of Working Options sessions is to give the students an insight into the career journeys of successful people in the food, drink and retail industry. The primary aim for us as an organisation is to raise the students' self-esteem, confidence and aspirations, as well as showing them what skills employers are looking for. The students at Bexhill College were a pleasure to work with and were well mannered, engaged and had some fantastic questions for our speakers.”
Our students had the privilege of receiving advice and inspiration from Lee Willett, Head of Marketing at Dairy Crest. Dairy Crest Group plc is a leading British dairy products company. Its brands include Cathedral City Cheddar cheese, Country Life butter, Utterly Butterly, Vitalite and Clover.
Angjela Shehu, one of our first year students, appreciated this opportunity and commented:
"They gave us an insight into the FMCG industry and showed us that you don't to come from a privileged background to succeed.”
James Morton, Senior Commercial Manager of Andros UK, also provided advice and guidance at the event. Andros UK Ltd produces chilled food and beverages for major retailers across the UK.
Deputy Head of Section, Ben Whittingham, commented on the value of both James and Lee's presentations:
"The opportunity for our students to get exposure to such industry experts was extremely valuable. James and Lee inspired our students to dream big and be more confident of taking calculated risks. They both reminded me of what I miss about working in industry whilst evoking interest and curiosity amongst our students.”
