As an increasing number of our cohort now travel in from the Eastbourne area, we invited Eastbourne and Willingdon MP Stephen Lloyd to speak to our Politics classes. Stephen spoke about his experiences as constituency MP and his role as Liberal Democrat spokesman for Work and Pensions. The students found it very interesting to hear about his work securing the redevelopment of the Arndale Centre and his future plans for the town.
Tallulah Heeson, a first year Politics student said:
“It was really interesting to speak to a MP and learn about what their role consists of both on a national level and on a local level.”
These events are valuable for our students as they demonstrate politics in action on a day-to-day basis and how MPs work to secure positive outcomes for their constituencies.
Timothy Mulligan, another first year Politics student commented:
“Listening to Stephen Lloyd was very interesting as it allowed us to gain an insight into what the role of a politician involves.”
Luke Flanagan, Teacher of Politics at Bexhill 6th Form College stated:
“Stephen was very engaging and passionate about his work as a local MP. I would like to thank him for giving up his time and sharing his experience with our students.”
This event was the latest in the wide ranging enrichment programme offered to the students at Bexhill 6th Form College. The next event is fast approaching on 15th January and will give the Economics and the Politics students the opportunity to visit the Bank of England and the Houses of Parliament.
