On Wednesday 29th November, Bexhill College’s Table Tennis Academy travelled to Brighton Table Tennis Club to face BHASVIC.
Unfortunately, Bexhill started the competition already two matches down, as they were one player short due to illness. The team consisted of Joshua Bennett, Ryan Heselden and Daniel Lane.
Bennett won both of his matches (3-0) and although Heselden lost his first match (3-1), he managed to win his second (3-0). Lane went on to lose his first match (3-0), which meant he faced huge pressure in his last match as Bexhill were already losing 4-3 on matches. Only a win would secure victory, and with Bexhill 10-12 down on individual games, it would need a 3-0 win for Lane to take Bexhill through to the Zone Finals.
With a big crowd around the table, Lane stepped up and put on a great performance for the deciding match. Lane won 3-0 which meant the match was tied at 4-4, but Bexhill took the win on games winning 13-12 overall. It was a great match between two very strong college sides.
After being crowned East Sussex Champions, Bexhill will now go on to Zone Finals with a chance of progressing to National Finals.
