Bexhill College students and staff participated in a range of sport themed activities during the week leading up to the Sport Relief Appeal Show on Friday 23rd March.
A weekly challenge was set of cycling/rowing to Paris by the end of Friday, which is a total of 266 miles away. Two rowing machines and four static bikes were based in the Refectory for students to jump on throughout the week to help raise money for Sport Relief.
There was also a pool challenge on Monday, where the students had to pot as many balls as they could in a minute. Whilst this was happening, volunteers were knocking miles off the Paris target. By the end of Monday, 90 miles had been achieved and £51 raised.
On Tuesday, the Sport Relief activities went electronic with E-Sports available in the Refectory. Students donated to play games such as Bowling and Tennis on the Wii, helping raise another £38. During the day, students and staff also managed to row/cycle another 83 miles off the target.
With an impressive 173 miles already accomplished, Wednesday was a pivotal day for the weekly challenge with only a further 93 miles needed to meet the 266 mile goal. Students and staff hopped onto the bikes and rowers and completed 151 miles in one day! The Health and Well-Being classes played a major role in this, with some of them cycling or rowing over 10 miles each. A further £39 was raised.
Even though the target of Paris had been surpassed by now, students were determined to push further so a new challenge was set - Geneva, Switzerland, only an additional 336 miles away. Students and staff rose to the challenge on Thursday, amounting another 117 miles and raising £18.50 more.
On Friday, ‘Turn-Up and Play Table Tennis' was run throughout the day. Bexhill College Student Union Chair, Tommy commented, "I played table tennis as part of the Sport Relief. It was quite a fun experience and competition got fierce towards the end against my friend. I also asked for donations and it was great seeing many students put what they could into the bucket for a good cause”. Tommy helped raise another £58.37 through bucket collections around the College.
By the end of the day, students on the bikes and rowers accomplished a mammoth 156 miles, which meant that we amounted a total of 597 miles. Therefore, we exceeded our second target of Geneva, managing to get as far as Genoa, Italy.
Throughout the week, Bexhill College managed to raise a total of £204.87. Thank you to all the students and staff that have participated and donated during our week of Sport Relief activities.
