Another excellent exam performance continues Bexhill College's long history of academic achievement and confirms the College's status as the top performing College in the area and one of the best College's in Sussex.
On Thursday 17th August Bexhill College celebrated its 24th year of achieving outstanding A Level results. Despite the challenge of a new A Level examination format, students at the College, yet again, delivered another excellent set of A Levels. This was on top of a high performing set of vocational level 3 results which, along with the International Baccalaureate results announced earlier in July, were a credit to the students who took their exams this summer.
Results for both A Level and AS qualifications improved from last year. Initial indications are that Bexhill College’s A Level pass rate for this academic year stand at 99%. The College had 1087 A Level entries this summer in 47 subjects. In all, 37 of these subjects achieved an impressive 100% pass rate, including Chemistry, Physics, Electronics, all Modern Foreign Languages, all three English A Levels, Medieval and Modern History, Further Maths, Computing, Politics, PE, Film Studies, Drama, Music and Geography. An additional eight subjects achieved pass rates in the high 90s. This is a fantastic achievement for a non-selective College which prides itself on being open access and providing opportunities for students of all abilities.
This was the first year of the new tougher linear A Level exams with many students at Bexhill College taking eight to ten exams over a two to three week period. The International Baccalaureate students also produced outstanding results with performances exceeding the students target grades. Alongside A Levels and the IB, almost 460 students completed a range of vocational qualifications this summer. These results have also been excellent with many students achieving distinction stars in their BTEC Extended Diplomas. These results are equivalent to three A* grades at A Level and lead to places in top universities.
College Principal, Karen Hucker, commented:
“Yet again, our students produced outstanding results which reflects an incredible amount of hard work by students and teachers plus a lot of support from parents. We are extremely proud that so many students achieved the success they deserve with us at Bexhill College. These achievements are particularly impressive given the increased challenge of linear exams and the need to be able to perform well under exam conditions. These results will provide students with significant opportunities in the future and we celebrate each and every individual performance.
“These results provide an excellent foundation on which to launch our 40th year as a successful, high performing Sixth Form College.”
The College’s continuing success has led to strong applications for September from young people in the area and from further afield. The College is looking forward to providing them with outstanding opportunities and ensuring high levels of success over the next year.
