Bexhill College have run a teacher training course in partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University for over 20 years. At the last Ofsted the programme was rated as ‘Outstanding' and it boasts a 100% success rate in terms of employment for its graduates.
This year's course starts in September and is now taking applications. Potential students could be working in an environment where they are teaching or providing training in settings such as businesses, health care and education. Alternatively, they can undertake two hours of voluntary teaching at the College per week. The programme runs on a Monday evening from 6.00pm – 9.00pm over 34 weeks and lasts for two years.
The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) with Level 6 Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (ProfGCE) meets the current government standards and is the recognised full teaching qualification. It is challenging, thought-provoking and immense fun, resulting in a qualification focused on professional development and building confidence in teaching and training.
Students have the opportunity to learn in collaboration with other teacher trainees from a variety of backgrounds to share insights and experiences.
Kate Savage, Creative Arts Teacher, recently completed the course and said: "The teacher training course has been a fantastic opportunity for me to pursue the career I had always wanted.” Kate left feeling confident and looking forward to a long career in teaching.
She added: "Being able to work and train has allowed me to develop a professional career whilst feeling fully supported by a great team who have welcomed me and nurtured my development.”
This teacher training course is designed to fit with individual specialisms, and offers opportunities in almost any discipline where teaching or training takes place.
Harriet Wakefield, Drama Teacher, who also completed the course this Summer, praised the support she received from the tutors. She commented: "I would highly recommend teacher training at Bexhill College because it's a vibrant, encouraging and supportive working environment.”
