On Thursday 18 August Bexhill College celebrated its 23rd year of achieving outstanding A Level results. Yet again, the College delivered another excellent set of A Level and vocational level 3 exam results which, along with the International Baccalaureate results announced earlier in July, were a credit to the students who took their exams this summer.
This excellent performance continues the College's history of academic achievement and confirms Bexhill College's long standing status as one of the best College's in Sussex and the top performing Sixth Form College in the area.
Results improved for both A level and AS qualifications. Initial indications are that Bexhill College's A Level pass rate for this academic year stand at 98.5%. The College had 1096 A Level entries this summer in 47 subjects. In all, 37 of these subjects achieved an impressive 100% pass rate, including Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies, all three English A levels, Further Maths, Economics, PE, Film Studies, Drama, Music and Geography. An additional nine subjects achieved pass rates in the high 90's. This is a fantastic achievement for a non-selective College which prides itself on being open access and providing opportunities for students of all abilities.
The A Level exams build on achievements from AS qualifications which are taken at the end of students' first year, with many students at Bexhill College taking eight to ten exams over a two to three week period.
The International Baccalaureate students also produced outstanding results with performances exceeding the students target grades.
Alongside A Levels and the IB, almost 400 students completed a range of vocational qualifications this summer. These results have also been excellent with many students achieving distinction stars in their BTEC Extended Diplomas, including Applied Science, Sports Science, Performing Arts, Health and Social Care and Business Studies. These results are equivalent to three A* grades at A Level and lead to places in top universities.
There were many incredible individual achievements across a whole range of academic and vocational subjects. As usual, a significant number of students achieved straight A grades in all exams taken.
College Principal, Karen Hucker, commented:
"The performance of our students this year has been outstanding and reflects an incredible amount of hard work by students and teachers plus a lot of support from parents. It is particularly positive given the increase in challenge in many of the exams following changes to the way they are assessed. This has placed more pressure on students being able to perform well under exam conditions.
We are delighted that so many students achieved the success they deserve with us at Bexhill College. These achievements will provide students with significant opportunities in the future and we are very proud of each and every individual performance."
These results bring another successful year for Bexhill College to a conclusion as the College continues to go from strength to strength.
This continuing success has led to strong applications for September from young people in the area and from further afield. The College is looking forward to providing them with outstanding opportunities and ensuring high levels of success over the next year.
