Bexhill Sixth Form College welcomed Ofsted in November 2019 and received confirmation that it has, once again, maintained its 'Good' rating. Bexhill College was one of the first to be inspected with a Short Inspection on the new Ofsted framework which started in September 2019.
This positive outcome from the inspection is testament to the continuous efforts of staff and students to maintain the College as the best sixth form college education provider in the Hastings, Eastbourne and Rother area.
The Ofsted inspectors found that Bexhill College provides education to students of varying levels and abilities. Ofsted commented that "students benefit from a curriculum offer that allows them to choose from a wide and varied combination of courses." They went onto say that "While studying they have access to excellent resources to support their learning".
Ofsted found that "a large majority of students, in particular A-level students, make at least good and often excellent progress from their starting point."
This is a testament to the quality of teaching at the College and Ofsted commented that "Teachers sequence learning in a clear and logical way that allows students to make rapid progress from their starting points".
With high quality education and excellent support comes excellent grades and achievements. This summer, students achieved over 80% A*-C grades at A Level, and when it came to vocational courses, a 99.5% Extended Diploma pass rate.
As well as students securing these top grades, Ofsted also recognised that the high-quality education provided at Bexhill College helps students to "develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours to prepare them for their future careers".
Bexhill College provides students with a range of progression opportunities. Ofsted recognised that "a high proportion of students go on to study at university" Bexhill College also supports students to enter into employment, or begin apprenticeships.
Ofsted also found that "students are well-behaved, polite and respectful to each other and their teachers. They arrive to lessons on time and keen to learn. They also found that students enjoy studying at the college. They feel "safe and thrive in the warm and welcoming environment".
Bexhill College is immensely proud that they can offer a high quality, open access education that provides courses for 16-19-year-old students from level 1 to level 3 - a curriculum Ofsted described as "highly responsive to the needs to the College's students, local employers and the community". All students, whatever their ability level, deserve to be educated in such high-quality provision. This education ensures the results that students require to be able to "make informed decisions about their next step". Ofsted also recognised the investment the College has made in the college buildings and resources which has a positive impact on "enhancing students' education".
The College is extremely pleased with this report. Principal, Karen Hucker said "This report confirms Bexhill College's long history of outstanding results and highlights the high-quality work achieved by the staff and students, along with the support from the parents. We are pleased our numerous strengths and the excellent education we offer for the young people of Rother, Hastings and Eastbourne has been recognised. It confirms the College's position as providing the best Sixth Form College education in the area."
