You may need a science GCSE for your chosen career e.g. teaching and nursing.
There will be 10 required practicals during the year that must be completed to pass the course but will not count towards your final grade. These will cover Microscopy, Microbioloy, Osmosis, Enzymes, Food Tests, Photosynthesis, Human Reaction Time, Plant Responses, Field Investigations and Decay.
How will I be assessed?
The course will be assessed by exam only. There will be no controlled assessments.
Are there any special expenses?
There may be optional visits involved in the course and there is a lab book that costs £2.
What could I do next?
A GCSE in Biology is a good qualification for many other courses and is necessary for careers such as teaching and nursing. It may not allow you to progress to A Level Biology without an additional science GCSE at B or equivalent or above.
Entry Requirements: A range of D-E grades. Students who do not have English and Maths at grade C or above will be required to take these qualifications alongside.
