Why Should You Take This Course?
Physical Education enhances a student’s knowledge and experience of PE and sport, along with relevant health issues. It is a natural progression from study at GCSE Level. Prospective students should have an obvious passion for sport, underpinned by a sound interest and knowledge of the biology and psychology of a sports performer. They should also be interested in the role of sport within wider society, the development of sport within our country and internationally alongside excellence in their own chosen sport. Students should be interested in joining an academy team.
The subject offers a holistic approach to a variety of aspects of Physical Education and sport. The PE specifications focus on 6 topic areas:
1. Applied anatomy and physiology
2. Skill acquisition
3. Sport and society
4. Biomechanical movement
5. Sport psychology
6. Sport and society and the role of technology in physical activity and sport
Wherever possible theoretical concepts are taught through practical application; however much of the learning is undertaken in a classroom setting. Opportunities arise at various points for students to see the ‘theory in action'; namely through trips to the Sports Science laboratories at the University of Brighton and attendance at university style lectures and conferences.
Students are expected to complete approximately 4 hours of homework a week; mostly in the form of flipped learning tasks to enhance their knowledge in preparation for forthcoming lessons
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is 70% exam based. Of the remaining 30%, half is attributed to the performers' physical competence in their chosen sport. The other half is NEA (Non- examined assessment), a coursework task based on strengths and areas for improvement in their practical performance.
Are there any special expenses?

There is a PE uniform which students will be expected to wear for all lessons.
