Why Should You Take This Course?
If you haven’t managed to achieve your grade C/4 you will have to re-sit your English Language GCSE. You will do the course in one year alongside your main programme of study. You will study a wide range of texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, including literature and non-fiction as well as other writing such as reviews and journalism. You will also have an element of creative writing.
How will I be assessed?
Paper 1: Fiction and Imaginative Writing
Section A - Reading: questions on an unseen 19th-century fiction extract.
Section B - Writing: a choice of two writing tasks. The tasks are linked by a theme to the reading extract.
Paper 2: Non-Fiction and Transactional Writing
Section A - Reading: questions on two thematically linked, unseen 20th- and 21st-century non-fiction texts.
Section B - Writing: a choice of two writing tasks. The tasks are linked by a theme to the reading extracts.
Speaking and Listening
This is a separate qualification.
There is one assessment to complete, it is a presentation task.
