Art and Design Extended Diploma

Entry Requirements:
Equivalent to 3 A Levels.
At least 4-5 GCSEs graded 9-4 or A*-C including English at grade C/4 or above and an art based subject.

Why Should You Take This Course?
The Art & Design Extended Diploma is an opportunity for students who wish to study a broad based course leading to a specialism in this field. It is a practical course supported by written research into related historical and contemporary Art and Design movements and practice and will require trips to local and national galleries. Students will be supported to develop their professional skills and portfolios in preparation for a career in Art & Design.

Course Content
Students study for an 18 unit qualification over two years. There are compulsory units which embrace transferable skills such as visual recording, contextual influences, materials techniques and processes, communicating ideas and concepts in Art and Design. Along with further specialism within areas such as: Fine Art, Graphic Design, Photography and Textile Design. This may vary from year to year.

How will I be assessed?
All units comprise of taught and independently guided practical and written assignments which focus upon the different skills needed to develop work within specific practical areas. All 18 units must be completed to achieve the full qualification.

Are there any special expenses?
You will be expected to have the necessary basic materials and equipment such as pencils, paint brushes, needles, some fabrics, photographic paper, sketchbooks and a portfolio case. Other costs will be for some specialist materials for personal projects and trips such as visits to galleries and museums.

What could I do next?
It is an ideal course for those aiming to progress onto Foundation Diploma, HND or Degree level in a specialist area. There are a wealth of diverse careers in the Creative Industries which our students progress onto include practical fine art and design making, to illustration, fashion design, interior design, architecture, art direction, film, television, animation, teaching, gallery administration and curating.
