Media (creative practice) extended diploma

Entry Requirements:

At least 4-5 GCSEs graded 9-4.

Why Should You Take This Course?

This course gives the opportunity to develop both academic and practical skills in an in-depth vocationally focused holistic study of media. Throughout the course, students will cultivate a range of analytical, theoretical and technical skills relevant to working practices in the Creative Media industry. The course is 100% internally assessed (no external examination). Students will also be expected to undertake a relevant work experience placement which the College can help to organise.

Course content

  • Moving Image (short film, music video
  • Graphics and Lens (branding, photography)
  • Audio (podcasts)
  • Character and Environment (character, set and costume design)
  • Text (blogs, social media)

They will also follow a brief to complete a creative project to demonstrate the skills they have developed.

Are there any special expenses?
Students should be prepared to invest in resources for their productions, as well as a pair of over-ear headphones with a 3.5m jack. It would also be beneficial to own a memory storage device to store work on. There will be opportunities for students to attend various trips and workshops that may entail an additional cost. Students will also be expected to carry out a short work experience project that may incur small expenses.

What could I do next?
The course is designed to cater for different media aspirations and disciplines with an emphasis on transferable skills, as well as project specific expertise. The overall aim is preparing learners for a career in the Creative Media industry. Our students have gone on to relevant university courses, apprenticeships and full-time employment.
