A range of 3/2 grades at GCSE. Students who do not have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above will be required to take the qualification alongside this course.
Why Should You Take This Course?
These qualifications develop knowledge and understanding of key applications of science, and build the essential scientific skills. If you have not already achieved a 4 & 4 in GCSE Science, this is an excellent stepping-stone to progressing to Level 3 vocational Science courses.
The Award in Principles covers four units: Principles of Science, Chemistry and Our Earth, Energy and Our Universe, and Biology and Our Environment.
The Award in Application covers a further four units: Application of Chemical Substances, Application of Physical Science, Health Applications of Life Science, and Scientific Skills.
You will also develop skills that are essential for the workplace and further study, such as team working, working to deadlines, presenting information effectively, and accurately carrying out practical experiments.
How will I be assessed?
One exam for the Principles of Science unit and one exam for Scientific Skills unit. The remaining units are assessed via assignments which range from lab reports to posters and presentations.
Are there any special expenses?
Personal Protective Equipment, such as lab coats, goggles and gloves may need to be purchased.
What could I do next?
You will have the opportunity to progress to Level 3 Science vocational courses such as the Extended Certificate or Diploma in Applied Science or Extended Certificate in Animal Management. You will also be able to progress into apprenticeships or employment.
