Sport (Outdoor Adventurous Activities) First Diploma

Entry Requirements:

A range of 3/2 grades at GCSE.

Why Should You Take This Course?

This course is the first step to becoming an outdoor instructor or working in the outdoor and adventurous industry. You will improve your knowledge of the industry and begin to enhance your skills in becoming an outdoor practitioner. Throughout the course you will gain an understanding of how the body systems work and respond to exercise, you will also design and undertake a training programme to improve your fitness. The course will involve you developing skills in a range of land and water-based outdoor and adventurous activities, such as climbing, mountain biking, windsurfing and sailing.

Course Content
The Extended Certificate in Sport is designed to build confidence, gain further sporting and scientific knowledge and to enjoy studying in a sixth form environment.
Approximately 12 units will be covered throughout the academic year covering various sports related topics such as:

  • Fitness Testing and Training
  • Practical Sport
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sport
  • Nutrition
  • Technical and Tactical Skills

How will I be assessed?
Each unit of work will be assessed by assignments, presentations and practical assessments with two units being externally assessed exams. A programme of set assignments will be issued at the start of the course, so students can plan their workload accordingly. Assignments are theoretical and practical in nature and the grades awarded for each will go towards the student’s final grade.

Are there any special expenses?
There is a compulsory sports kit which students will be expected to wear for all lessons.

What could I do next?
You could progress to an Extended Level 3 Diploma or move into employment.
