Why Should You Take This Course?

This course is designed to offer students an opportunity to undertake high quality, employment related learning with a focus on Information Technologies, Computing and Computing Technologies. Students who are considering this course are doing so on a long standing love of technology, a logical interest in what makes computers work and a passion and desire to solve problems by building and deploying computing (hardware and software) and creative technology solutions.

Course Content
This course allows for an up to date and current curriculum of study through the development of a vocationally desirable skillset. Students will study a range of topics: information systems, databases and social media marketing and web design.

How will I be assessed?
Students will undertake a Data Systems (database) project to be completed under exam conditions in the first year of study. The first year will also have a coursework assessed project in which students will learn to apply social media campaign techniques and strategies to market businesses and organisations.

The second year will have a further examined unit (computer and information systems) and another coursework assessed unit, with a total of 4 units being delivered across the two year course. Grades are awarded at either distinction, merit or pass, with the final course grade being awarded equivalent grading and UCAS points to either a single AS Level (at the end of year one) or a single A Level equivalent  at the end of the two year course

What could I do next?
Successful completion of this course will reward the learner with evidence of industry specific skills which would enable the candidate to stand out on entry to the workplace. In addition, the qualifications carry UCAS points, equivalent to the corresponding A Level programs, meaning that successful learners will be equipped with both the skills and the qualifications to gain a place on a related degree at universities nationwide.

Progression Pathways
Students completing this course would be well equipped to enter directly into the technology sector, either through direct employment, or a Level 3 apprenticeship. Students would also be well equipped to continue education at degree level in technical and creative IT courses, such as database management, social media design or web technology.”
