Entry Requirements:

At least 4 GCSEs graded 4-9 including English or Maths.

Why Should You Take This Course?

This course would be most suitable for students who have a keen interest in Sport, who wish to study Sport further into Higher Education or alternatively enter employment into the sporting industry.   This course is an ideal alternative to A Level Physical Education.

Course Content
Each topic is related to the sporting interests of the group wherever possible and adapted to be as practical as the course allows. It is advisable to have a strong scientific interest and an interest in a variety of sports. You will study 4 units over two years of study.

Mandatory Units:

  • Anatomy and Physiology – this is a written exam which will be externally marked.
  • Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being – this is an externally set case study and will be externally marked.
  • Professional Development in the Sports Industry.

Optional Units (students will study one of the following): Coaching for Performance.

  • Application of Fitness Testing.
  • Practical Sports Performance.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is completed using externally assessed exams and internally assessed assignment work, focussing on specific tasks relating to each unit.

Are there any special expenses?
The course provides potential opportunity for a host of additional sporting experiences including: first aid, coaching badges, trips and activities

What could I do next?
Students can study sport further into Higher Education or alternatively enter employment into the sporting industry.  Previous students have pursued various sport related degrees as well as used qualifications from the course to gain employment in the leisure and sports industry.
