Entry Requirements:

At least 4-5 GCSEs graded 9-4, including English or Maths at grade 4 or above.

Why Should You Take This Course?

This course is designed to offer students an opportunity to undertake high quality, employment related learning with a focus on Information and Computing Technologies. Students who are considering this course should have an interest in what makes computers work, how technology can help to solve world problems, and the use of social media and websites in business. Students will develop the skills and understanding that they will find useful in their chosen career, preparing them for progression to higher or further education or into employment or apprenticeships.

Course content
The course offers a wide range of units covering core areas of IT (such as studying digital devices, networking, databases and cyber security) and others which are themed around a video game design project. These include video game programming, social media campaigns, website development, 2D/3D graphic design with animation, and mobile app development.

How will I be assessed?
Students will undertake one paper-based exam, and three other practical externally assessed assignments. The remainder of the course is assessed internally using work-based scenarios.

What could I do next?
Students completing this course would be well equipped to enter directly into the technology sector, either through direct employment or a Level 3 apprenticeship. Students would also be able to continue education at degree level in technical and creative IT courses such as cybersecurity, game development or web technology.
