Music Performance Extended Certificate

Entry Requirements:

At least 4-5 GCSEs graded 9-4 including English or Maths at grade 4 or above. Plus, a music performance qualification at grade 4 or equivalent.

Why Should You Take This Course?

Music Performance is for the performing musician/vocalist and the composer/songwriter. If you are already skilled as a performer to around grade 4 or equivalent and want to develop your skills, then this course will allow you to develop your skills through class workshops and concerts. The course also includes music journalism through research and article writing.

Course content There are various units, designed to make you think deeply about your role as a performer and practical tasks to help improve your technique. There is also substantial written work to complete, so you will need good English skills too. Units could include:

  • Practical Music Theory and Harmony
  • Professional Practice in the Music Industry
  • Ensemble Music Performance
  • Composing Music
  • Music Performance Session Styles
  • Solo Performance
  • Improvisation Music

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is through a mixture of performances, written work and presentations.

Are there any special expenses?
The College does have various instruments and equipment, but it will be beneficial for you to bring in your own instruments if possible. You may want to purchase books on techniques specific to your instrument/voice. Opportunities to attend performances, workshops and seminars will be available during the course, costs will vary.

There are numerous Higher Education courses with a focus on performance and we have special links with ACM, WaterBear and BIMM who run degree level courses in various aspects of performance.
