Entry Requirements:
Five GCSEs at grade 5 or above including Science, Maths and English.
Why Should You Take This Course?
This course is suitable for students who have an interest in science and want to work within the science or health sectors. It will prepare you for entering employment or an apprenticeship in a lab-based setting after college, this course does also carry UCAS points.
Course content The course consists of:
- Core A - The Health and Science Sector which covers topics relating to the workplace including relevant legislation, policies, and procedures used by science-based organisations.
- Core B - Science content covering all 3 science areas.
- The specialist pathway on offer will be the Laboratory Skills Option where you will undertake a variety of practical tasks as well as learn the theory behind the techniques and the equipment used.
The course also involves a work placement of about 45 days.
There will be exams for the core components at the end of the first year and an employer-set project set by the exam board. This consists of a series of different tasks carried out under controlled conditions, allowing you to demonstrate core skills such as presentation.
Are there any special expenses?
As you will be working in laboratories during the course you will need to purchase a lab coat and goggles. You will be asked to contribute towards the cost of travel to visit industry settings.
This T Level will prepare you for entering employment in a lab-based industry or going onto a higher-level apprenticeship.
