Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) Technical Diploma

Entry Requirements:

At least 4-5 GCSEs graded 9-4 including Maths or English at grade 4
or above.

Why Should You Take This Course?

This qualification prepares learners to become Early Years Educators enabling you to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of 5 to 7 years or access Higher Education to study Primary Education or a range of Early Years degrees.

Course content You will complete 750 hours of work placement in a variety of settings including child-minders, nurseries, primary schools, private schools, and schools for children with additional needs. You will study 15 units including:

  • Child Development
  • Children’s Health and Well-being
  • Child health
  • Professional Partnerships
  • Play and Learning
  • Observation, Assessments, and Planning
  • Providing Safe Environments
  • Professional Practice
  • Supporting Numeracy and Literacy Skills

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed in a variety of ways, that includes two externally set and marked essays, unit assignment tasks, projects, and work placement-related tasks. At work placement you will be assessed to demonstrate competency when carrying out activities, carrying out observations, and your interactions.

Are there any special expenses?
A DBS check is required for work placement as is a uniform (polo shirt). There will be a cost to travel to and from placement.

What could I do next?
You will learn the skills and qualities needed to work with children and build a portfolio of evidence to support your transition into Higher Education or employment. In order to gain employment as a qualified Childcare Practitioner, students will need to have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above.
