At least 5 GCSEs graded 9-4 including English and 5/5 or above in Double Award Science and 5 or above in Maths. You would ideally have studied the higher tier content for Maths and Science as there is significant mathematical. and physics content.
Why Should You Take This Course?
This course is ideal for those students who are interested in pursuing a degree in engineering or going on to a higher-level apprenticeship. It can be taken as a double A Level equivalent National Diploma or a single Extended Certificate alongside one or two other subjects respectively.
You will study units on Engineering Principles. Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team and Engineering Product Design and Manufacture as well as other units which may include a Specialist Engineering Project and Manufacturing Secondary Processes.
The course covers the theory of engineering principles including relevant maths and physics. Within some of the units, there is practical work involving CAD and machining in the workshop.
How will I be assessed?
The course is partly assessed via exams and part coursework. For the single A Level equivalent course, the Extended Certificate is 67% externally assessed. The 2 A Level Diploma course is 33% externally assessed.
Are there any special expenses?
As there are practical aspects to this course and you will be spending time in the specialist workshop, you will need to buy appropriate protective clothing including protective footwear, overalls, goggles, gloves, ear protection, and masks.
You will need to contribute towards the cost of materials for your project work, plus any trips and visits.
What could I do next?
Students completing this course can progress on to study Engineering at university if they have studied A Level Maths alongside, go on to a higher-level apprenticeship or go into employment.
