Why Should You Take This Course?

Over the course of two years, you will achieve a Level 3 Science vocational qualification which will help to prepare you for the scientific workplace or higher education. 

Course content Year 1:

• Unit 1 covers the core principles across the three science disciplines.
• Unit 2 focuses on practical procedures and techniques. This unit introduces you to standard laboratory equipment and techniques, including titration, colorimetry, calorimetry, chromatography, calibration procedures and laboratory safety.

Year 2:

• Unit 3 focuses on science investigation skills across the three science disciplines. You will plan investigations and analyse and evaluate the data you have collected.
• You will also complete an optional unit. You will be able to choose from 2 of biology, chemistry or physics units.

Mathematical skills and concepts run throughout many of the units.

How will I be assessed?
You will sit exams for Unit 1 and Unit 3. The remaining units are assessed via assignments which range from full reports to presentations.

Are there any special expenses?
You will need to purchase a lab book for your practical work and may need a lab coat, gloves and goggles. You may also need to contribute to trips.

What could I do next?
This course leads to a range of university courses such as Biological Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering, Paramedic Science and Nursing and Midwifery when studied alongside other relevant qualifications. You will also be able to progress to higher apprenticeships within the Science sector or employment.
