Why Should You Take This Course?

There are many different career paths within the animal care sector. This course aims to give you the skills and knowledge relevant to a career working with animals.

Course Content
You will study units covering both theoretical and practical aspects of animals and their care including a unit on animal biology where you will study cells, tissues and organs in animals and their functions. There will also be practical and theoretical work on animal health and welfare, including how animal health is assessed, common diseases and prevention.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment for this course is through assignments for each of the units and a portfolio of work including evidence of practical tasks that have been carried out. You will be awarded a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* grade. This qualification is equivalent to two GCSEs and you will need to study three other Level 2 qualifications alongside, including English and Maths, if you do not already have them at a grade 4 or above.

Are there any special expenses?
There will be trips during the course that you will be expected to go on including places such as zoos and animal rescue centres. You will need to contribute to transport and pay entry fees if applicable.

What could I do next?
If you are successful, you could progress onto Level 3 courses including the Level 3 Animal Management course. Alternatively, you could seek employment or an apprenticeship.
