A range of GCSEs graded 3/2. A keen interest in Art and Design, either through previous study or independent work evidenced by a portfolio, needs to be demonstrated.
Why Should You Take This Course?
The course is for students who wish to study a broad-based course leading to a specialism in this field. It is a practical course supported by written research into related historical and contemporary Art and Design movements and practice. It is an ideal course for those aiming to progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design.
Course content
Students have the opportunity to develop their skills in a wide range of art disciplines such as 2D, 3D, photography, graphics, textiles, and fine art work. They will also explore the work of artists and designers to help them to develop their own creative ideas.
How will I be assessed?
All areas comprise of taught and independently guided practical and written assignments, which focus upon the different skills needed to develop work within specific practical areas.
Are there any special expenses?
You will be advised to have the necessary basic materials and equipment such as pencils, pens, paint brushes, sketchbooks and a portfolio case. Other costs will be for some specialist materials for personal projects and trips such as visits to galleries and museums. You may be asked to purchase art and presentation materials along with print credits.
What could I do next?
The course will prepare you for further study at Level 3. Careers in the Creative Industries include practical fine art and design making, to illustration, interior design, architecture, art direction, film, television, animation, teaching, and gallery administration and curating.
