Bexhill College continues its long history of success

Bexhill College continues its long history of success with another year of excellent results, which continue to highlight its status as the top performing College in the area and one of the best Colleges in Sussex.

As with previous years, this summer’s results are based on a lot of hard work and commitment from our students.

The overall pass rates for both the A Levels and Level 3 vocational courses were outstanding and well deserved, particularly with the challenging situation students were faced with this year. The provisional pass rate at A Level is 99.4% which maintains last years’ performance, which was the College’s highest ever A Level pass rate, with a total of 32 subjects achieving a 100% pass rate. Many students achieved high grades at A Level allowing them to progress to their chosen destinations, of which a significant number are at the most selective Universities.

Students studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma, which is equivalent to three A Levels, also achieved a 99.5% pass rate with many high grades. Many students achieved triple distinction stars which is equivalent to three A* grades at A Level. These results mean that students on these vocational courses have also been able to access courses at leading Universities.

In addition, prior to lockdown, students celebrated many achievements such as gaining awards in Economics, securing football scholarships in the USA, and winning competitions in Politics and Geology.

Despite the disruptions and uncertainty Covid-19 has brought this academic year, staff and students have continued to work hard to complete their studies online.

Throughout lockdown, students continued to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents which were seen in slightly different formats, including a virtual Creative Arts Exhibition showcasing the high-quality work of students studying Fine Art, Art & Design, Photography, Textiles, Graphic Design and Fashion. The Performing Arts students were unable to perform this year’s musical live in June, as planned, so created an inspiring online rendition of ‘Come to my Garden’ from the College’s cast of 'The Secret Garden'. Students also took part in a National Photographic Competition for students in Sixth Form Colleges depicting ‘lockdown’.

National statistics also highlighted the success of previous students when they progress onto higher education, reflecting the quality of preparation they have at Bexhill College to enable them to cope with such a move. Data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) released in March showed that Bexhill College’s former students have performed above the national average in their university achievements in 2019. Figures show that 79.5% of Bexhill College students have gone on to achieve First or Upper Second Class degrees, compared to a national average of 78.1% for state education.

All of this has been achieved as a result of the hard work and efforts of students along with the excellent guidance and support of the staff who work with them. These achievements reflect the high levels of academic success the College is proud of, as well as the wide range of other opportunities available for students; such as enrichment, guest speakers, work experience and trips.

College Principal, Karen Hucker, commented:

‘Despite this year not running quite as expected, our students and staff have worked hard throughout their courses, both prior to and during lockdown and overcome the unexpected challenges the latter period of the year brought us. We congratulate all our students on their results and wish them every success with their next steps’

The College’s continuing success has led to strong applications for September from young people in the area and from further afield. The College is looking forward to providing them with outstanding opportunities and ensuring high levels of success over the next year.
