An outstanding 99.2% pass rate at A Level celebrated the 25th year of achieving fantastic A Level results for Bexhill College. On Thursday 16th August, yet again, the College delivered another excellent set of A Level and
vocational level 3 exam results which are a credit to the students who took their exams this summer.
This excellent performance continues the College's history of academic achievement and marks improving results year on year, which are above the national rates. Such performance confirms Bexhill College's long standing
status as one of the best College's in Sussex and the top performing Sixth Form College in the area.
Results beat expected national averages for both A Level and AS qualifications. The College had approximately 1000 A Level entries this summer in 46 subjects. Of these, 42 subjects achieved an impressive 100% pass rate, including Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies, all three English A Levels, Modern History, Further Maths, Economics, PE, Film Studies, Drama, French and Geography. An additional three subjects achieved pass rates in the high 90's. This is a fantastic achievement for a non-selective College, which prides itself on being open access and providing opportunities for students of all abilities.
The new linear A Level exams require students to take ten to twelve exams over a two to three-week period which is a significant challenge and the results should not be under-estimated.
Alongside A Levels, almost 880 entries for a wide range of Level 3 vocational qualifications this summer, with 551 students completing an extended diploma. These results have also been excellent with many students achieving distinction stars in their Extended Diplomas, including Business, IT, Applied Science, Sports Science, Performing Arts and Music, Health and Social Care and Travel and Tourism. These results are equivalent to three A grades at A Level and lead to places in top universities.
There were many incredible individual achievements across a whole range of academic and vocational subjects. As usual, a significant number of students achieved straight A grades in all exams taken with 50% of the student entries achieving top grades of A*-B which contributed to 81% of the entries achieving A*-C.
College Principal, Karen Hucker, commented:
"The performance of our students this year has been outstanding and reflects an incredible amount of hard work by students and teachers plus a lot of support from parents. It is a fantastic achievement for all given the increase in challenge in many of the exams following changes to the way they are assessed. This has placed more pressure on students being able to perform well under exam conditions.
We are delighted that so many students achieved the success they deserve with us at Bexhill College. These achievements will provide students with significant opportunities in the future and we are very proud of each and every individual performance.”
These results bring another successful year for Bexhill College to a conclusion as the College continues to go from strength to strength.
This continuing success has led to strong applications for September from young people in the area and from further afield. The College is looking forward to providing them with outstanding opportunities and ensuring high levels of success over the next year. With this level of performance at Bexhill College, why would students study anywhere else!
