Ella Pickles, one of our many talented A Level students has recently succeeded in acquiring an accountancy apprenticeship with GMP Chartered Accountants, thanks in part to her impressive performance in last year's national final of the Business, Accounting and Skills Education (BASE) competition. This is an event organised by the Institute for Chartered Accountants for England and Wales (ICAEW), which allows students to develop key employability skills and understand what it's like to be an ICAEW chartered accountant.
Through participating in the various rounds of the competition, in addition to learning accountancy skills on her A Level Business course, such as ratio analysis, investment appraisal and break-even analysis, Ella was inspired to consider a career as a chartered accountant. This led to her research the opportunities that were available by browsing numerous recruitment websites.
During the interview and selection process, Ella was provided with feedback confirming how impressed her new employers were, with her achievement of reaching the national final of the BASE competition. As the ICAEW is a world leading professional membership organisation that promotes, develops and supports over 150,000 chartered accountants worldwide, the staff involved in the recruitment process at GMP were well aware of the significance of Ella's achievement.
"I am thankful for the opportunity given to me to participate in the BASE competition, as it gave me an insight into the work of a chartered accountant. The experience strongly influenced my decision to pursue a career in this profession.”
Ella is currently devoting her time to revising for her forthcoming exams but she looking forward to beginning her AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification, which will form part of her apprenticeship. We wish Ella every success as she takes the first steps towards her career.
