Bexhill College, in partnership with Eastbourne Borough Football Club, suffered a third consecutive defeat in the National Alliance league losing 9-0 at the hands of Whyteleafe. Following on from the close encounter between the two teams the previous week, which saw Eastbourne lose 4-3 with 10 men, a much changed and inexperienced squad made the trip to Whyteleafe.
Following a tight first 30 minutes, with the score at 0-0, Eastbourne trailed at the break 4-0. The second period was full of endeavour and effort, however the hosts deservedly scored a further 5 goals. The score line could have been worse if it was not for a ‘Man of the Match' performance from Sonny Chambers in the Eastbourne goal, who produced a string of good saves.
The Academy's Coach, Sean Noble, reflected on the defeat by commenting "This was probably the best training session some of my players have ever been part of. All the players will be able to reflect on the ability and intensity levels of the opposition, and attempt to develop their own game by trying to reach the levels set by the opposition. For us as an Academy, we are here to try and develop the player's ability levels through training and creating opportunities to play against high standard opposition. It was unfortunate that we could not field our strongest 11, due to the upcoming Quarter final on Friday 24th January, however the players who played in this match performed well against an organised and technically better opponent.”
Attentions now turn to Friday's Sussex County Cup fixture against Stars Football Academy on Friday 24th January, which kicks off at 1pm at Bexhill College.
