Bexhill College Cricket Academy become Regional Champions

On Tuesday 12th November, the Bexhill College Cricket Academy set off for Farnborough Sixth Form College bright and early at 6:30am to compete in the AOC South East Regional Cricket Championship.

Seven teams took part in the day-long event to become Regional Champions, which meant that six games were played in total to decide the team to progress through to the National Championships in Nottingham later this year. Bexhill started the day strongly, successfully winning the first game against Barton Peveril. The next game was tougher as Bexhill faced Farnborough Sixth Form College, who have won the event in previous years. Unfortunately, Bexhill went on to lose this game, but this would turn out to be the College's only defeat of the day. They put on a fantastic performance, going on to beat Esher, Richard Taunton, Havant & South Downs and Peter Symonds, gaining two points for each victory.

The whole squad of seven players got to play on the day through a rotation of players for the six-sided competition. The star batters of the day were Paul Crittenden and Rowan Sharkey, who opened the batting and scored a large number of Bexhill's runs. Everyone in the team contributed greatly to the bowling and fielding for the day.

It was a tense finish to the day, with Bexhill and Barton tied, both finishing with ten points, having won five games and lost one. The winner of the competition was decided on a head to head record, meaning Bexhill's opening fixture win against Barton Peveril resulted in Bexhill being crowned regional champions.

All of the boys were a credit to the College, representing the College impeccably on and off the field, and all are looking forward to the national competition in April.

The College has also had yet more success in both tennis and badminton in the latest regionals which took place in Basingstoke. The tennis team played well against the regional champions, and the badminton pair played competitively against a very high standard of regional players on the day, finishing 4th and 5th; a fantastic effort.
