On Wednesday 6th November, Bexhill College in association with Chelsea Football Club Foundation and in partnership with Eastbourne Borough Football Club (EBFC) drew 3-3 with Ebbsfleet United in a breathless encounter in the National Alliance League.
In a game which began quite open, Eastbourne started stronger and dominated possession for large periods, but didn't capitalise on good scoring opportunities.
Despite this early dominance, Eastbourne fell 2-0 behind following two errors in defence, which left the Ebbsfleet forward racing through one on one, maintaining his composure and finishing well.
Eastbourne continued to create several good chances and pulled a goal back through Leone Gravata, but then poor defending saw Ebbsfleet once again extend their lead just before the end of the first half to make it 3-1.
Eastbourne made some changes at half time which saw Ben Overton and another Bexhill College student both come on. Their introduction brought about an immediate increase in intensity and effort. Eastbourne penned Ebbsfleet back for long periods, with Ebbsfleet dangerous on the counter attack.
Josh Stockdale scored a good individual goal to bring the scores to 3-2 before Ben Overton scored from 25 yards, aiming low into the goalkeeper's right-hand side to bring the scores level.
Eastbourne will feel that they should have come away with a win, after hitting both the post and crossbar and missing two chances from inside the 6-yard box.
Good performances from Josh Pool and Gravata were backed up by captain Matthew Astle who was Eastbourne's likely man of the match, through his tireless running and creative play. Attentions now turn to next week's home fixture against Burgess Hill.
