Women’s Football Academy lose hard-fought clash against BHASVIC

On Wednesday 27th November, Bexhill College's Women's Football Academy welcomed BHASVIC to their home ground, and gave a very strong BHASVIC side more than what they were expecting.

A very even first half saw BHASVIC dominate possession, but Bexhill looked more likely to score on the counter attack. Izzy Foot, Becks Simmons, Minnie Sheppard and debutant Rachel Davis caused BHASVIC problems throughout the first half. Unfortunately, BHASVIC then took the lead 22 minutes in, with a scrappy goal coming from a throw-in that was finished with great power.

Bexhill started the second half on the front foot. A very clever and well-struck free kick from Bexhill's Simmons on 50 minutes from the right side of the box, around 25 yards out, drew Bexhill level: 1-1.

However, the motivated BHASVIC side and their possessive style of play started to make the difference. Bexhill's hard running was beginning to fade and BHASVIC started moving the ball increasingly well. After 10 minutes of consistent pressure, the Bexhill defence finally broke and BHASVIC regained the lead with a well struck low effort from the edge of the box. 2-1 quickly became 3-1, with BHASVIC mis-hitting a shot which was unfortunately misread by the Bexhill goalkeeper.

After this, Bexhill increased their intensity, and began to take more of a hold in the game, beginning to progress up the pitch in the way they did in the first half. But with 5 minutes left, one of the BHASVIC substitutes makes perfect contact with the ball from 30-35 yards out, firing the ball into the top left corner to finish off the game at 4-1.

An unfortunate result from an ultimately decent performance from Bexhill. The only real difference between the two sides was a 15-minute spell in the second half.

Player of the Match went to Izzy Foot; her link play and fantastic first touch was essential in the phases of play that caused BHASVIC problems.
