Bexhill College Football Academy returns to winning ways

Bexhill College, in partnership with Eastbourne Borough FC, returned to winning ways in the National Alliance League on Wednesday 27th November, defeating the Crystal Palace Foundation 4-1 at Priory Lane.

In a game which was affected by the weather conditions, Eastbourne enjoyed long periods of possession in the first half without overly troubling the Crystal Palace goalkeeper. The deadlock was broken by Eastbourne's Sean Howard who followed up well, after Josh Pool's header was saved from Ben Steadman's cross from the right-hand side.

Eastbourne were quickly awarded a penalty soon after this when Leone Gravata was fouled in the box, which Dan Blackmore calmly scored, seeing Eastbourne lead 2-0 at the half time break.

Moving into the second half Eastbourne started slowly, resulting in their lead being halved following some sloppy defending, allowing Crystal Palace to get themselves back into the game.

Palace continued to pressurise the Eastbourne goal but Eastbourne's Sonny Chambers was rarely troubled, with Eastbourne then regaining a two-goal advantage. Chambers found Leone Gravata with an early throw; Gravata got past his marker and passed to a further four players, covering some 60 yards, before scoring low into the bottom left-hand corner.

Three soon became four when Blackmore added his second goal of the game from the touch line, with a volley from Gravata's freekick.

Coach Sean Noble was delighted with the result following last week's disappointing performance. He described this performance as the perfect response to what had been a poor result last week, which had been very out of character for his team.

Noble reserved special praise for debutant Chambers and man of the match Will Daniels, who made an excellent impression at centre back. They both took their chances to impress in the starting line-up.

Attentions quickly turn to next week's home fixture with Dover Athletic.

Bexhill College's Football Academy is also in association with Chelsea Football Club Foundation, and is holding its next trials in March 2020. For more information on trials and the College's other Sports Academies, please visit
