Our Extended Diploma students in Business recently attended an employability skills seminar provided by the Working Options in Education organisation. This organisation engages, inspires and motivates state-educated sixth form students to realise their full potential and to consider professional employment opportunities.
Lauren Monk, National Development Manager for Working Options delivered the seminar, which focused on improving the students' presentation skills. Lauren shared stories from her own experience, relating to how employers are increasingly using presentation tasks as part of their recruitment and selection processes.
Our students had the opportunity to practise their presentation skills and then received expert guidance from Lauren on how they can adapt their performance to achieve maximum success.
Bexhill 6th Form College enjoys working closely with Working Options in Education to strive towards meeting the ‘Gatsby' benchmarks. A report published in January 2018, namely ‘Good Career Guidance – Benchmarks for young people in colleges', set out what career guidance in England's schools and colleges should look like going forward. The ‘Gatsby' Benchmarks have a key role to play in enabling all young people to develop the skills and outlook they need to achieve career well-being, including adaptability and resilience.
We look forward to our next event in collaboration with Working Options in Education later in the year.
