Bexhill College Football Academy play against League Leaders, Tonbridge Angels

Bexhill College, in partnership with Eastbourne Borough Football Club, suffered a fifth consecutive league defeat losing 6-3 away to league leaders Tonbridge Angels. On a day which saw Eastbourne have 11 players unavailable for selection, they controlled large parts of a topsy-turvy encounter. After falling behind to an early goal, Eastbourne rebuilt well to level the scores, through an own goal from an excellent Matthew Astle set piece delivery.

With the Eastbourne midfield of Astle, Hugo Corbin and Leone Gravatta having an increased impact on the game, it was no surprise to see them gain the lead through Louis Elliott's 5th goal of the season. Eastbourne would have been disappointed to go into the half time period level after conceding late in the first half.

Tonbridge scored two quick goals to race into a 4-2 lead early in the second period. Leone Gravatta pulled Eastbourne back into the game, converting a penalty which he won himself following tenacious play to restore hope. With Eastbourne pushing to level the score, Astle and Gravatta both tested the Tonbridge goalkeeper from distance, before Tonbridge restored their two goal advantage from a late set piece. Tonbridge scored a 6th with the final attack of the game to see the score line finish 6-3 which was harsh on the Eastbourne performance.

Coach Sean Noble reflected by praising his players for their performance. "To have the opposition coach approach you after the game to praise the performance of 3 of your players gives you an indication of how well we performed. We are still yet to field our strongest team in a league fixture this year which shows the potential the team has moving forward as we have just ran the league leaders very close.

Man of the match was Leone Gravatta, who had an outstanding game and was a constant threat which was acknowledged by both coaching teams.
