This week, two hundred Year 9 pupils from St Catherine's College, Cavendish School, The Causeway School, Willingdon Community School and Ratton School took part in Make It Count Day at Bexhill 6th Form College. The event allowed the pupils to develop their numeracy skills through a range of practical, problem-solving activities.
Andy Pritchard, a Head of Section at the College commented:
"We like to extend our College vision of ‘Outstanding College, Outstanding Opportunities' beyond our current students so that the wider community benefits from our expertise as well. It was a pleasure to work with both the staff and the pupils of our feeder schools. We are aiming to promote imaginative and inspiring approaches to teaching numeracy skills. We believe our methodology engages learners, giving them the confidence and skills to succeed in using mathematics in their everyday life, both now and in the future."
The event aimed to give pupils the confidence to contemplate studying subjects that incorporate the use of quantitative skills, such as Geography, Psychology, Economics and Physics. Pupils also gained exposure to the facilities and resources that students studying at a specialist sixth form college benefit from.
There was positive feedback from pupils who attended with comments such as:
"It was really fun. Thank you!”
"I love the facilities.”
"It was a great day.”
