Chloe Wilkinson, one of our enterprising BTEC Business students, recently raised £125.13 for the Alzheimer's Society from her two-day cake sale and raffle. Chloe, who runs a successful Internet business, in addition to studying towards an Extended Diploma, wanted to use her entrepreneurial flair to raise awareness of a disease that impacts a significant amount of people in the UK, both directly and indirectly. Chloe commented:
"I decided to raise money for Alzheimer's Society in honour of my grandma. She has been suffering from severe Dementia for the past four years, and it has been very difficult on myself and my family. Dementia is a very common disease in the UK, with one person developing Dementia every three minutes. I don't think people understand the ripple effects of the disease, because Dementia doesn't just impact the person diagnosed, but everyone around them, and the support isn't there for people to get through it. Therefore, I decided to hold the bake sale not just to raise funds for Alzheimer's Society to continue its research and provide the necessary support for those affected, but also to make my generation aware of what Dementia is and to encourage them to help Alzheimer's Society achieve their mission.Ē
She went on to say:
"I really enjoyed everything involved in the bake sale, from the planning and poster designs, to counting the money raised at the end. The sale helped me to gain confidence and other skills I'll need in the future, as well as enabling me to achieve my goal of raising money for a charity very close to my heart.Ē
Well done Chloe, we are convinced that your enterprising nature and ethical stance will allow you to achieve great things in the future.
