Bexhill College Women’s football academy in association with Chelsea Football Club Foundation played their second friendly game of the season against BHASVIC on Wednesday losing 5-3 in a tight encounter. Going into this game this was first game the players were able to play again after lockdowns and covid restrictions and to make the experience better the game took place in the Eastbourne Borough’s stadium at Priory Lane.
The game started off competitively with both teams looking evenly matched in the first 20 minutes, with the game being contested in the middle of the pitch with Bexhill defending well. BHASVIC took the lead first before Bexhill drawing level through Lottie Sharp but a late goal just before the half time whistle meant going in at half time 2-1 behind.
In the second half Bexhill came out positively with a few tactical changes to try and peg the opposition back and much like the first half there was plenty of action in the midfield areas. BHASVIC increased their lead to 4-1 before Bexhill pulled a goal back through Rebecca Simons racing onto a through ball to finish well. BHASVIC continued to pressure the Bexhill goal with Madeleine Thornton Barter producing several good saves. Going into the last 10 minutes of the game Bexhill reduced the deficit further through Milly Topliss who converted a cross from Simmonds from close range.
The game in general was played in a good spirit and possessed high levels of technical ability from both sides and served to be a great advert from women’s football.
Coach Catherine Ruth commented “I was very happy with the girl’s performance, they have persevered through the pandemic having limited training as a whole team and I can see a very positive future for this team of players.”
