Bexhill College in association with Eastbourne Borough Football Club and Chelsea Football Club Foundation suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to top of the table Eastleigh on Wednesday 3/11/21.
Returning to action following the half term break Eastbourne acquitted themselves well against a well organised Eastleigh side who had scored 10+ goals 3 times this season. In an even opening 20 minutes Eastbourne took the lead through a stunning 30-yard strike from Herbert Ademola which gave the Eastleigh goalkeeper no chance is it flew into the top corner. Disappointingly the next time Eastbourne would touch the ball again would be to kick once Eastleigh had equalised immediately. This quick reply put Eastleigh in the ascendancy, and they went into the lead on the stroke of half time.
Eastbourne responded well and created two good openings straight after the restart but not draw level. Eastleigh added a third before Finlay Holter made two excellent saves to prevent Eastleigh extending their lead further. Ryan Moir restored hope with an excellent long range free kick which set up a grandstand finish.
Eastleigh held on to leave Eastbourne to regret the missed chances they had created.
An excellent cameo performance from Jack Taylor on debut turned the game on its head and was a real bright spot from the game.
Academy manager Sean Noble commented, “I am very proud of the team and the effort they put in today, they have shown that they can match the team who are top of the table in terms of ability which gives us confidence moving further into the season. If we can become more ruthless in front of goal, then I believe that we can enjoy a really successful season in what is a tough league.”
Player of the match was awarded to Herbert Ademola for a quite outstanding goal which topped off an excellent performance in defence.
